Business managers must be proficient in analyzing business decisions and solving problems. They must therefore have both qualitative and quantitative analytical skills and tools. On one end of the spectrum are schools with non-quantitative approaches that emphasize social behavior and psychology. On the other end of the spectrum are shools that require the use of advanced mathematics like matrix algebra and calculus for the analysis of problems. Most schools are somewhere between. Some schools rely on the widespread use of computers to reduce the need for a highly quantitative background while giving students good analytic skills, whereas others feel that they must be quantitiative to enable studeents to take full advantage of the computer's power.
