Pseudo-Transformational Leaders
Followers can be duped by a pseudo-transformational leader interested in only appeasing just a few privileged insiders.
Look at the dupings in scandals such as Enron.
Pseudo-transformational leaders can weave their need through manufacturing crisis to enhance own power, e.g., creatiing the U.S. war with Iraq. They use crisis to grab power. Time-shortage prevents people from deciphering whether a transformational leader is authentic or pseudo-transformational.
Therefore, transformational leadership is imperfect model as it can potentially harm people when used with evil, destructive and selfish intentions, e.g. as pseudo-transformational leaders.
Since transformational leadership style matches people’s expectations of an ideal leader, an astute transformational leader can dupe people by externally gratifying their desires of a perfect leader.
Also, people generally believe that security threats to business, etc are external. However, in reality, the biggest financial, etc threats to businesses are inside-jobs.
Trusted employees with access to privileged information abuse their powers and commit huge disruptions of service, e-commerce sites, customer credit data and personal information – a serious crime unnoticed under cover of immunity in name of so-called protective security.
Prudence should be exercised about the dark side of transformational leadership as it can ruin civilization that is as yet unable to see the future impact of the tip of the iceberg that is barely visible today.
