Starting Salary
The primary reason for getting an MBA degree is to enhance one's career
opportunities and future income. Students from the best MBA programs
command the highest salaries when they graduate, but starting salaries
depend on many other factors. When an MBA graduate receives a salary in
excess of $120,000, it may be because that individual is a physician,
attorney, or a 30-year-old stock analyst who earned more than $100,000
before receiving the MBA degree. Students with less work experience
typically receive lower offers than those with a lot of experience.
Starting salaries also vary by field or concentration. Students
concentrating in finance or accounting may command higher starting
salaries than those who choose general management or marketing as their
concentration. Finally, there is considerable variation in salaries by
geographic region, students' grades, and the state of the economy at
graduation time.
